Lovers of travelling and picture taking , be prepared to glow with invidia . The winners of the2018 National Geographic Travel Photographer of the Yearcontest have just been revealed , showcasing some of the most incredible picture of wildlife , born wonder , and cultivation get hold on our foreign piffling major planet .

The grand swag was submit home by Reiko Takahashi for her fundament - side exposure ( above ) of a humpback heavyweight sura cruise the seas off Japan ’s Kumejima Island , capably titled “ Mermaid . ” Along with the title and halo , Reiko also pocketed a $ 10,000 prize . “ It was a special scenery for me , to be able to take a photo of the calf , all relaxed in patrician water system , ” explained Reiko . “ Most of the meter , the calf stayed close to her mummy . Reiko was the victor in the Nature category , while Hiro Kurashina of Japan won the “ Cities ” category for his pic titled “ Another Rainy Day in Nagasaki , Kyushu ” , and Alessandra Meniconzi of Switzerland swept the honors of the " People " category for her image “ Tea Culture . ” They both also took home a $ 2,500 prize .
