Jennifer Coolidge is a “huge” fan ofSex and the Cityand starKim Cattrall— but the actress won’t be stepping into the shoes of Samantha Jones anytime soon.
On Thursday, theLegally Blondeactress appeared onWatch What Happens Live with Andy Cohenwhere she discussed whether or not she would be interested in taking over Cattrall’s character in the show’s upcoming HBO Maxrevival.
Coolidge, who happened to play a small role in a 2003 episode of the original series, explained that Cattrall was so “perfect” as Samantha that she doesn’t see herself, or anyone, replacing the character.
“I was a huge, and still am a huge,Sex and the Cityfan. It’s one of those shows you can just watch the reruns and never get tired of them,” the actress began.

“But I have to say I am such a Kim Cattrall fan, and I don’t see anyone being able to replace her in that part,” Coolidge, 59, continued. “It was just the perfect … I don’t think you can replace her.”
On Sunday,Sarah Jessica Parker,Cynthia NixonandKristin Davisconfirmed the news of a futureSATCreboot, titledAnd Just Like That, onInstagram. Cattrall — who has publicly maintained that she wouldnever return to the franchise— was noticeably missing from the exciting announcement.
While several actresses, including Coolidge, have been floated to take over Cattrall’s role,Sex and the Cityauthor Candace Bushnell said she thinks the series will work just “fine” without any Samantha at all.
“You know what, I think it’s fine,” Bushnell toldPage Sixjust days after the revival’s announcement. “Kim is a grown woman. She is 64 and she’s made a decision that I’m sure she has 10 very good reasons for and I respect her for that.”

Parker, 55, is set to reprise her role as writer Carrie Bradshaw in the revival, and Davis, 55, and Nixon, 54, will return to play their original characters Charlotte York Goldenblatt and Miranda Hobbes, respectively. All three women will also serve as executive producers.
Bushnell continued on to say that she thinks the show will be “interesting” without Samantha and that the series can now further explore its other characters.
“But I also know there’s a lot of interesting characters like [Nixon’s] Miranda. We are all Mirandas. Miranda is an interesting character — but I don’t know what they’re gonna do,” she said.
“Kim should be happy — and I think she is happy. I think that her character Samantha is always going to be an inspiration to them,” Bushnell added.
The author also noted that the reboot’s writers will surely come up with ideas to address Cattrall’s absence.
“So somehow, I imagine she’ll be there in spirit and as an inspiration that gives them a chance of exploring sexuality with different characters [without Samantha hogging the libidinous spotlight],” Bushnell explained.
