Between 1939 and 1945 , World War II waste a significant portion of Europe and Asia . Shortly thereafter , German General Alfred Jodl fix to surrender at American General Dwight D. Eisenhower ’s home base in Reims , France . At first , Jodl endeavor to surrender only to the westerly Allies , but Eisenhower would only admit a complete surrender of all Nazi forces still fighting on the field . So , on May 7th , the Nazis surrendered categorically to the Allies at Reims .
