Conservation photographerJennifer Warnervisited the Children ’s Pool in La Jolla , California on Tuesday so as to shoot the pupping harbor sealing wax that have take up residence on the beach . She soon noticed some juvenile gulls chasing each another around and make a rumpus ; one of them had what she reckon at first was a art object of plastic contamination in its beak . She snapped a few photos and zoomed in .

“ Before take in what the object was , I was annoyed and mad , because plastic pollution is a real serious trouble , and as a preservation photographer I ’m documenting human impacts on wildlife , ” Warner secern Gizmodo . “ But when I realise what it was , while the other emotions still existed , you ca n’t help oneself but detect humor in it . ”

Seals have used this reach of beach as a breeding refuge since at least 1996 , the San Diego Union - Tribunereports . The urban center shut the beach for five months in 2014 , but residents sued to have it reopened . A judge ruled that the city could once again shut the beach for pupping season in 2018 . But the SEAL are n’t the only animate being that have found refuge here ; other wildlife , like the gulls , take advantage of the peaceful habitat as well .
Gulls are n’t just beach - loafing french - fry thief . They provide crucial ecosystem services , cleaning up the afterbirth from the sealing wax on the beach , for example . But they ’re also cunning , playful shuttlecock . Warner watch the juveniles tossing the dildo and chasing one another around until one of the bird fly away with it , for use only the chump bang .

As a preservation lensman , Warner endeavor to document how human and wildlife coexist , including how humans pollute home ground and get along into conflict with wild animals . She was glad that these picture are going viral as a way to line people ’s attention to plastic pollution on a beach .
