Here ’s the first look , net wide , of the Upstart GPS - inauguration Dash , and their GPS arrangement . What ’s special : Instead of pulling maps , and points of interests from a drive or flash memory board , the Dash can pull down real time updates over WiFi or cellular data .
allow me spell it out for you : When you search for a gasoline station , it returns street management , but also the pump toll . When you search for a film theatre of operations , it returns pic times . Your maps never get out of date , and your points of interest database could be pull from all the Google / Yahoo!/Yelp type of sites , giving you access to a much inexhaustible routine of … wayside Denny ’s .
And then there ’s dealings hive - thinker thingy … (jump )

UPDATE : Whoops ! Photo run now … thanks B.A. Kotaku .
Instead of just reporting accidents and moving you off from them , the Dash comes with historical traffic data point that goes hour by time of day , per section of route . That mean it know that main road 80 ’s ordinary speed is about , oh , 20 miles per 60 minutes at 5 pm sound towards the bridge . And in the middle of the nighttime , it should be 60 .
But that does n’t report for one time delays like ball game traffic and chance event . Say someone using a Dash is pose in some traffic like that . The Dash GPS use its cellular data linkup to report lag to the Dash central server , which kicks down the refreshful data to other users in the area . So your Dash is part of a traffic ward off beehive mind . Think about it&Mdash ; Big city are full of traffic , and other adopters , so this could really work .

Dash GPS ’s connectivity also makes it fairly well-off to program . you could use the touchscreen . Or you may choose an name and address on your PC , right click , and select “ direct to Dash ” to move it like a shot to your machine . In the demo I saw , this use up about 1 2nd . ( Below )
Another thing that impressed me about Dash was how effectively it seek for stuff you need . Eric explore for propane , and the GPS sneak into Yahoo ! , where it pulled back resolution for ironware stores , and other places that did n’t actually have the Holy Scripture propane in the store ’s title . The web user interface is tweakable , too .
One could setup Dash to update RSS feeds with geographical data , for things like apartments on craigslist , or frump parks .

The screens here are from a paradigm equipment , so the UI has a foresightful way to go before it start up shipping in early 2007 . The computer hardware is a little thick around the midsection , but that ’s ok consider this is n’t meant to be a pocketable Global Positioning System , considering all that connect - licious wireless gear at bottom .
PS , Cory D. and the EFF Gangstas : These Guy are insanely pre - cautious when it come to privacy of location information , too . Pricing ? Not yet .
