Gillian Andersonmay not be done with truth-hunting quite yet.
On Wednesday’s episode of theTodayshow, the actress, who played FBI Special Agent Dana Scully onThe X-Filesfrom 1992 to 2002,sharedher two cents on the rumored reboot of the long-running sci-fi series.
“It’s so funny because for most of my life, since I have finishedThe X-Files, every interview I do, people have asked and the answer has always been, ‘Nope, not going to happen, not going to happen,’" Anderson, 55, toldSavannah Guthrie. “Now,Ryan Coogler, who is the director ofBlack Panther— brilliant, brilliant director — has approached Chris Carter to say that he wants to do a take on it and I cannot think of a better way around for a reboot to happen.”
Calling Coogler “a bit of a genius,” Anderson said that “there’s a chance [a reboot will] happen,” though she played coy on whether it would involve her reprising her beloved role or not.
“Whether I am involved in it is a whole other thing,” she said, before clarifying, “I’m not saying no.”

“I think he’s really cool and I think if he did it, it would probably be done incredibly well," she added. “And maybe I’ll pop in for a little something something.”
The actress was previously involved ina two-season revival of the series, which ran on Fox from 2016 to 2018 and saw both her andDavid Duchovny, who played her FBI partner, conspiracy theorist Fox Mulder, reprise their roles. The original series also led to two feature film spinoffs,The X-Filesin 1998 andThe X-Files: I Want to Believein 2008.
“For Gillian, I wrote ‘Test,’ which means I wanted to take her before the studio and the network,” Carter toldInverse.
While he noted that it’s “ancient history,” he told the outlet that Fox was vocal about wanting a “bombshell type” to take on the role of Scully — andPamela Andersonwas specifically mentioned as desirable.
“Where’s the sex appeal?” Carter recalled executives asking him. “Even though Gillian’s beautiful, she wasn’t their idea of sexy. First, because they didn’t understand what I was trying to do with the show. And she was an unknown, so that never helps.”

He also told the outlet that he’s “looking forward to seeing” what Coogler will do with the potential reboot.
“No matter what, he’s got a hard job,” Carter said. “Casting is a hard job. Mounting it is a hard job. All the problems that I dealt with are going to be his problems.”
The pair chatted, though, and Carter said they had “a really nice conversation” where Coogler shared his ideas and Carter gave his approval. “I just asked him what his ideas were, and he told me, and I said, ‘Those sound like good ideas.’”
