NASA is adding more food and consumable supply to an upcoming cargo dropoff to the International Space Station ( ISS ) to sustain the crew after canceling a resupply mission slated to launch in June .
A Cygnus spacecraft that was due to set up to the ISS in June sustained wrong while traveling to the launch site at Kennedy Space Center in Florida , and is no longer set to fly . NASA was forced to delete the Cygnus load mission , which was due to gestate water , food , experiment , and other supplying for the ISS crew , SpaceNewsreported . Instead , the infinite agency will adjust the shipment manifest for SpaceX ’s coming resupply mission , which is due to take off in April .
The Northrop Grumman - built spacecraft is one of two cargo vehicle used to send provision to the ISS on a regular base , the other being SpaceX ’s Dragon . This exceptional space vehicle was to be used for the NG-22 mission , schedule for June . On its manner to the launch site , however , the transport container for the spacecraft ’s pressurized cargo faculty sustained hurt . NASA has a commercial resupply contract bridge with a third ship’s company , Sierra Space , touse its Dream Chaser fomite for cargo dropoffs , but the spacecraft is not yet quick to fly . NASA is also wait on Boeing ’s Starliner fomite to get it together and transferral lading and astronauts to the ISS once it has been certified , but the space bureau late bring out that it isconsidering another exam flight of the vehiclebefore it becomes operational .
Until then , NASA has to trust on Northrop Grumman and SpaceX for regular trips to the ISS .
