The San Francisco Bay Area ’s Metropolitan Transportation Commission wants tostick a GPS mental faculty on every resident ’s railcar , track the full mil drive — and then tax the consequently . masses transit and carpooling are o.k. ideas , but this does n’t seem like such a capital affair .
allot toCBS Bay Area , the commission wants to launch a study to explore the pros and cons of the Vehicle Miles Traveled tax , which could force driver to give as much as a dime bag per geographical mile . It is purportedly an effort to reduce road congestion and push mass transportation system . From an individual commuter ’s viewpoint , driving farsighted aloofness to work every day could mean paying more money to go make money .
But then there ’s glare privateness proceeds tie in with GPS tracking . The commission say it does n’t care about where people are go ( only how far they ’ve traveled ) . But what ’s to stop law enforcement or governments from seizing that data ? Hopefully this is one neb that never goes into effect . [ CBS Bay Area ]
