American Horror Story had its ups and downs this time of year — but at least the show ended its second time of year with style and grace . On Wednesday dark , Briarcliff went out with a bang . And for the first time in a long while , it feel like the show ’s script was dumbfound the same attention as the cast ’s wardrobe .

First up , I have to give a limited hooray to the amazing homage to the “ Willowbrook : the Last Great Disgrace ” — the genuine - life , principal - launch exposé take by the mustached reporter Geraldo Rivera . There are lines in “ Briarcliff Exposed ” that seem directly lifted from the 1972 documentary film about the horrifying Staten Island Institution . Geraldo is the perfect real life lineament vis-a-vis to Lana . Their work launched them into the public eye and eventually twist them both into monsters . But obviously in very dissimilar means .
Perhaps the best part of the closing curtain was how it cracked open relationship between Lana and her Son ( present day Bloodyface ) . In his madness , inside the downfall of Braircliff , Baby Bloodyface cobbles together his neuroticism . Long ago the murderous tiddler of Lana and Dr. Threadson come his hands on a tape of Lana and his begetter campaign . Lana was endanger to abort her succeeding son , while Threadson was desperately arguing for his Word ’s living . It was then that Baby Bloodyface “ started loving him and started hating you . ” And just like that , all the part fell into place . No more slicing and dicing , we are witnessing the creation of a maniac .
But luckily , it ’s never that simple on AHS . Lana being the conniving - name - dropping - amply - out - and - mythologic puppet that she is now , place a trap for her son . butter him up with hifalutin reveals about his existence , while cutting him down with her cold delivery . Lana reminisces to the camera about the time she flutter to her whodunit Logos ’s playground and save him from the bullies . We recognise this is the very illustration that Baby Bloodyface realized that Lana might be his female parent . It fall into lieu like an early sequence of Dynasty , but with so much more style .
And then the ultimate sudsy pull : Lana shoots her son in the head with his own gun . With a blast that heralds the reason we love and dread this grapheme so much . I do n’t think it : Lana ’s own ambition is her devil . And I cerebrate she amaze it in the remnant , mystify it with a fucking rock until its skull shattered and mastermind fell all over her gorgeous shoe . This was why I enjoy American Horror Story . This is creepy , demented horror .
We visited a few other characters throughout the determination . Kit was sheepishly remarried ( yay ) and hustle up to alien Heaven because there was no where else for that terrible no effective stinking patch to go . So steer toward the light Kit , we ’re sorry you got lodge there in the first place .
Sister Jude , had a much more poetic farewell . Freed by Kit , she ’s nursed back to health for 6 magnificent months with Kit ’s exotic babies . It was all very nice , and I ’m beaming to see Jude get some tone comforter and nestle meter . But the proceeds was all Lana . As Kit key out Jude ’s final consequence and her request to the Angel of Death for peace he states , “ I do n’t know who she was talking about . ” To which Lana reply , “ I do . ” This second of joint nuisance and agony , a throw back to the copious fourth dimension both of these women have been dangled at the edge of animation by this series , almost ALMOST made up for the copious amounts of distaff brutality we had to witness for a whole time of year . It was a peaceful goodbye to a interchange graphic symbol that set out off as a baddie and ended as a saint . I ca n’t say enough great things about this character . Jessica Lange is crazily fun to watch , perhaps it stems from her power to straddle Jude ’s internal conflicts with a form of power that I interest does n’t subsist in vernal Hollywood . Her character from the previous season did n’t really become human until the the true about her boy was lento revealed , but you ca n’t help but cheer for Jude .
I ’m thankful the time of year finis took the time to make the consequence about the reference , and not just about ramming a coat hanger inside someone while that individual scream . The show last gave the actors a luck to catch one’s breath , and emote . There ’s good closure here .
Meanwhile the Monsignor commits self-destruction in a de - aging bathtub . And just like , that the monomania and Dr. Arden ’s flock of zombi patients are gone . Giving Lana a bit of a clear scruples , as it was her pester that got the corrupt Catholic to “ withdraw . ”
If I ’ve learned one thing from the entire time of year of American Horror Story : Asylum it ’s that Tim Minear should be assigned to write more ( if not all ) of the episode of this series . Hell , he made the foreigner plot employment bypulling a poochie2 . Thank good — it was an absolute delight to focalize in on one level and cease it well . The second time of year was definitely harder to get through than the first . No matter how strange the first season went , it never matte like it was teetering on lady torture porn quite as much as the second time of year . However , time of year two has had a dynamite end , full of resolution and self-contemplation . I ’m much more invest in delve into the head of a lineament like Lana than watching the spook Harmons decorate their spook Christmas Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree . Plus there were plenty of additional highlights . It will be a farsighted time until I forget the sweet smile of Sister Eunice , or her little dance .
