In its just released fiscal statements for the first quarter of 2016 , the company once again split its numeral into two categories : Google , which is its kernel web business , and “ other wager , ” like its life sciences business Verily , its moonshot lab X , and the ego - driving gondola project .
The price of Alphabet ’s “ other bet ” has gone up yr - over - yr to$802 millionfrom $ 633 million during the same period in 2015 . Alphabet ’s outgo problem is part of an ongoing issue at the company to legitimize many of its sexier ( albeit less profitable ) projection .
