I wo n’t be able to see my mommy today because I ’m on the other side of the country . But I sent flowers and mom is happy ! What would you do if your mom was in place , like Astronaut Cady Coleman , though ?
Video chat ! Blog entry ! fundamentally , anything to quell connect with your mother , as blasting off a few flowers into space will probably cost you a few million buck . CNN ’s John Zarrella contacted Cady Coleman , and she had this to say about Mother ’s Day , being in space , being away from her phratry and much , much more :
“ Being a mom is special , and length does n’t change the bond we have with those we bang . It never pass away , even when you leave the major planet for a few months ! It seems like just yesterday that Paolo Nespoli , Dmitry Kondratyev and I lather ourselves into a glacial and creak Russian Soyuz projectile , and were launch into space from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan . For the retiring five month , I ’ve made the International Space Station ( ISS ) my home in low earth orbit , circulate our Earth 16 fourth dimension every unmarried mean solar day at 17,500 mile per hour . From 200 miles above the earth , my husband Josh and son Jamey and Josiah seem both close – and far .
I get to talk to my sept almost every day via an cyberspace communications protocol phone , and once a week we get to see each other on a video conference . I still escape lots of important event and occasions , but thanks to Josh , Jamey writes a short diary entry almost every day . Josh send it to me and I get it on to find out about liveliness from the perspective of a 10 year older . Jamey is tender of a cartoon where a small-scale male child and a tiger share adventures and get themselves into all sort of mischief .
I brought a small stuffed tiger up here with me and I take photos for Jamey so that he can refer to what his Mom does on the space post . From the Panthera tigris ’s perspective , there is a lot of great problem to get into here on the ISS !
Life in our ‘ zero gravity ’ world on the ISS is engrossing . We verbalize about floating around , but really we get to fly from spot to berth . It is just like Peter Pan , except that we are grownups ! This place institute out the child in all of us , and it is a overnice admonisher to me to treasure the things and the people that reach my pith .
I love look out the windowpane at our Earth – a fragile oasis in a fussy universe . When I see the places that I have it off – the place where my family lives – it makes me feel closer to them , although still a mo pensive and lonely when I see those places recede over the horizon .
It was hard for me to go so far forth , but I ’m hoping that I go down an illustration for my child and others to succeed their dreams . My sept knows that I love the work that I am doing up here , and that I mean it is important enough to be gone from plate for so long .
Today as I look down at our beautiful Earth , I remember of mothers everywhere and realize that we are all of one family . I am not the only one who is far from their loved ones than they would wish well to be . Today we fete those women who are fend for their families , watch over their dream and bring in a divergence , and we thank all of them .
I ’d especially like to give thanks the women who serve our state in job that keep them from home on holidays like this one .
