Britian ’s Vincent HRD series of motorcycles describe its rootage to 1928 . After purchasing the HRD company that year , Philip Vincent append the name to his own line of bike .
As an artificer and technologist , Vincent produce some very groundbreaking designing during his career , and bikes carry the Vincent HRD logo were known for their quality construction – and high prices . It was the latter that would lead to the company ’s death in 1955 .
Vincent ’s first models were powered byenginesproduced by the J.A.P. society , as were many other motorcycle of the era . But they sported rearward suspensions – strange for the day .
In 1935 , the company introduced its own engine , a 500 - cc overhead - valve undivided . V - Twin follow , basically being two singles immix on a vulgar crankcase .

In 1949 , a high - performance version of the Rapide joined the line . Called the Series C Black Shadow , it had black - painted locomotive cases and was even faster than the Rapide . Today , the Vincent Series C Black Shadow is one of the most in demand classic motorcycles in the world .
